We Need the Holy Spirit for Revival

In times of trouble often people look for answers in desperation.  Google is filled with articles to help you solve your personal problems.  But how do you work on a worldwide problem?

I believe Jesus gave us the answers and showed us a clear path.

Matthew 9: 14-17 reads: 14Then the disciples of John [the Baptist] came to Jesus, asking, “Why do we and the Pharisees often fast [as a religious exercise], but Your disciples do not fast?” 15And Jesus replied to them, “Can the guests of the bridegroom mourn while the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast. 16But no one puts a piece of unshrunk (new) cloth on an old garment; for the patch pulls away from the garment, and a worse tear results. 17Nor is new wine put into old wineskins [that have lost their elasticity]; otherwise the wineskins burst, and the [fermenting] wine spills and the wineskins are ruined. But new wine is put into fresh wineskins, so both are preserved.”

For those who have wondered where the name “NewGrapes” comes from, this is the chapter and verse where the idea was born.  We must be the new grapes from which the new wine is made from.  We are the Kingdom of Heaven and we have a new Spirit to guide us, which means we need a new way of thinking.  Fasting and prayer are littered throughout the old and new testaments, and especially in Acts.

Just like Jesus, after his baptism, went into the wilderness where He fasted for 40 days.  There is a key element to fasting that brings one closer to God (if that is their goal for performing such a task).  When one fasts it helps to give clarity to one’s own thoughts and motives.  The idea that in ultimate hunger one instead relies on God to sustain them is critical.  I believe if we want to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit then we must be desperate to hear it.

We are now, at the time of this writing, 58 days away from a critical election that will shape this country for the next four years.  However we are in a much more critical time in our country where violence and rioting seem to have us on edge.  Whether the outcome of the election is favorable or not to the rioters and looters is irrelevant.  The fact remains that the number of people who vehemently hate the United States will not magically disappear after the election.  They will either be elated or vindictive after the election, their ideas about this country will not change.

This is why I believe we need a revival in this country and the rest of the world.  I believe that if we are to have a chance at revival then we must Fast, we must Pray, and we must have Fellowship with believers.

This is why I am calling for a 21 day fast.  Get yourselves prepared.  For those who wish to participate, I ask that you spend some time in prayer first to ask the Holy Spirit if this is His will for you.  If it is then I ask that you reach out to me on facebook let me know that your going to fast, I may even create a support group to help others along this journey.  Share this post, tag your friends and use the hashtag #21DayFast.

I believe this is our duty and possibly one of the last chances we will have to reach the masses about the power of the Cross and how it can change lives.  It’s what we are called to do, Jesus told us to preach the gospel to the ends of the earth, and we need to prepare ourselves to do just that!
